“MADE IN PORTUGAL naturally” the Portuguese Association of Wood and Furniture Industries will hold a showcase at INDEX Saudi with its project Associative Design – the Best of Portugal

Associative Design, created by the Portuguese Association of Wood and Furniture Industries (AIMMP), will showcase the `Made in Portugal Naturally' themed top-notch furniture brands at INDEX Saudi exhibition happening at Riyadh Front Exhibition & Conference Center from September 7 to 9, 2021.


AIMMP promotes ‘The Best of Portugal’ furniture products and brands globally, and pitches in design work in the use of both technology and design. The Associative Design brings Portuguese flair and creativity to the Middle East at the exhibition with a small representation of a traditional Arabic house and a restaurant sample with products completely designed and produced in Portugal.

The INDEX Saudi is the Kingdom’s flagship interiors trade event to showcase furniture brands and manufacturers from around the world connecting interior designers, contractors, architects, fit-out firms, buyers, and specifiers in the world’s fastest-growing real-estate region.

Commenting on the exhibition, Mr. Vítor Poças, President of AIMMP- Portuguese Association of Wood and Furniture Industries, said, “We are glad to be present at Saudi Index as the Kingdom is a growing market for the home sector exports. Saudi is one of the global leaders helping market resurgence in the post-pandemic world. We are confident about the improving growth prospects for Portuguese brands with the Saudi Government’s massive initiatives to develop the tourism and hospitality industry. Saudi Arabia's furniture sector is one of the most vibrant markets in the GCC with the volume predicted to reach USD 112 million by 2024.”

“In this exhibition, the visitors will have the chance to see a mix of innovation, sustainability, and contemporary design, apply to the furniture, porcelain, textiles and also a few author-designed pieces. Some of the products are specially designed for the hospitality market and others to hotels and private houses, dedicated to Interior designers, decorators, architects, and so on,” he added.

The furniture industry of Saudi Arabia has reached its maturity by adversely got a hit due to declining oil prices and recession in the economy. New infrastructure, increasing demand for residential property along with government initiatives to develop socio-economic infrastructure is driving the whole Kingdom of Saudi

Arabia. The increasing interest of foreign companies towards Saudi to expand their businesses and develop product portfolios also keeps the momentum of the furniture market in the Kingdom.

It is anticipated that demand for furniture will grow at a CAGR of 8.7% during the forecasted period. Higher disposable income in the hands of people leads to changing lifestyles which may, in turn, lead to the demand for furniture in the country.

The contract furniture demand in the country is analyzed and differentiated by major sectors: hotels, restaurants, airports, banks, education, and public offices and so on. Upcoming hospitality projects such as the Red Sea Development project attracts several foreign players including hotels with increasing demand for luxury furniture. Saudi Arabia hospitality providers will indulge in high-quality and premium furniture which will cast a statement for their visitors.

Changing preferences of the people, drifting from huge bulky furniture to convertible and lightweight may lead the market trends. When it comes to market challenges, the consumer demand for furniture keeps changing because of the young demographic population coupled with high smartphone penetration.

The Saudi Arabian e-commerce furniture is anticipated to surpass USD 26 billion by the end of 2026. The market is mainly driven by increasing mobile penetration, advances in technology such as big data and artificial intelligence.
